Health Care Standards
HL7- Health Level Seven is one of several American National Standards Institute (ANSI) -accredited Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) operating in the healthcare arena. Most SDOs produce standards (sometimes called specifications or protocols) for a particular healthcare domain such as pharmacy, medical devices, imaging or insurance (claims processing) transactions. Health Level Seven’s domain is clinical and administrative data.
ICD-9/10- Provider and diagnostic codes for Medicare/Medicaid.
SNOMED- SNOMED Clinical Terms
ASTM- ASTM Committee E31 on Healthcare Informatics develops standards related to the architecture, content, storage, security, confidentiality, functionality, and communication of information used within healthcare and healthcare decision making, including patient-specific information and knowledge.
IEEE- IEEE's core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity
LOINC- The purpose of LOINC® is to facilitate the exchange and pooling of clinical results for clinical care, outcomes management, and research by providing a set of universal codes and names to identify laboratory and other clinical observations.
HIPAA- This legislation was enacted in order to help protect an individual’s health information while allowing it to be passed between payers/providers. The legislation was an attempt to pave the way for payers, providers and clearing houses to transmit health record information while protecting the patient’s privacy.
